Please see the complete set up process and troubleshooting guide in user manual: bt.tn/manual

- Mobile data bttn can be either Classic (large one) or Mini.

- With Classic bttn, the correct user manual depends on your firmware version. In general, if you have received your bttn after 4/2016, select the manual for version "201603 or later"

If you experience issues connecting to mobile data network, please check the following.

1. Does your operator provide GPRS coverage at your area? For measuring GSM/GPRS signal strength, see solution 1 below.

2. Have you disabled SIM card's PIN query? For removing PIN query see solution 2 below.

3. If the above two points are ok, then you may need to enter your operator's APN settings manually. Please see solution 3 below.

Solution 1 - measuring signal strength

If your bttn has problems connecting to cellular network, you can measure the signal level directly on the bttn.

1) Remove power.

2) Insert SIM card if you haven't yet.

3) Press and hold the bttn.

4) Keep bttn pressed and insert power.

5) Keep bttn still pressed; after 15 seconds or so, bttn will show the signal measurement with from 1 to 6 green or from 1 to 6 blue LEDs.

6) After you have the signal reading, you can release the bttn.

Scale on bttns running firmware December 2014:

1 green LED = very low signal ... 6 green LEDs = medium

1 blue LEDs = medium ... 6 blue LEDs = excellent signal

Scale on bttns running firmware March 2015 or later:

1 blue LEDs = very low signal ... 5 blue LEDs = excellent signal

Scale on bttn Mini:

1 blue LED = low ... 3 blue LEDs = excellent signal

Solution 2 - removing SIM card's PIN query

If your SIM card asks for a PIN (or a PUK) code, your bttn is not able to use it and will therefore not be able to connect to a cellular network.

To disable the PIN query, you need a phone or other device that can change SIM settings.

1) Insert the SIM card to a phone that uses micro-SIM (e.g. iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy S5, Nokia Lumia devices, or e.g. cellular versions of iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3rd gen and iPad 4th gen. )

2) On your phone, go to Settings, choose "Phone" (on Apple devices) or “Security” (on Android devices) and then "SIM PIN" or “Set up SIM card

lock”. Set the SIM PIN slider or “Lock SIM card” to OFF.

2b) On Windows Phone, SIM PIN query can be found under “Phone”. Tap “…” for more options and then choose “settings”.

Solution 3 - Setting operator specific GPRS APN settings on the bttn

NOTE: Firmware versions 201503 and 201506 store the APN settings in the phone book of your SIM card. Some SIM cards have a maximum characters limit of 8 or 20 characters. This limits the use of operators with very long APN addresses. The 20 character limit is most common.

- The string bttn tries to write on the card is for example APN:internet (12 characters).

- Firmware 201603 and later store the APN settings on the bttn's onboard flash memory and do not have this issue.

If your bttn cannot connect to your operator's GPRS mobile data network, you may need to change the APN settings.

- If your received your SIM card from The Button Corporation, please contact us by creating a new support ticket.

There are 3 alternative ways to send the APN settings to your bttn.

Before you start, find out the GPRS access point name (APN) of your operator and its username and password if any.

Option 1: Set APN through my.bt.tn

1) Find out the phone number of your SIM card.

2) Remove power from your bttn.

3) Insert SIM card to your bttn.

4) Press and hold your bttn and then add power. Keep bttn pressed under blue LEDs turn on. Then release bttn.

5) Sign in at my.bt.tn

6) Click properties icon next to your bttn.

7) Under change APN settings, enter your phone number with country code format (e.g. +1...) and your operator's GPRS APN settings.

8) Click "Send".

9) When bttn receives the message, it first shows a yellow LED which then turns green (OK, settings stored) or red (error, settings not accepted).

10a) Firmware 201503, 201506, 201610: After successfully receiving settings, bttn restarts itself and attempts to connect to the Internet.

- or -

10b) Firmware 201603 or 201605: After successfully receiving settings, push and hold the bttn for 6 seconds to start network search.

Option 2: Set APN by sending SMS to your bttn

1) Find out the phone number of your SIM card.

2) Remove power from your bttn.

3) Insert SIM card to your bttn.

4) Press and hold your bttn and then add power. Keep bttn pressed under blue LEDs turn on. Then release bttn.

5a) Firmware 201503 or 201506: Using your phone, send an SMS with the following information to your SIM card's phone number (remove quotes):

"APN:your.operators.apn,USER:username,PASS:password" - or -

"APN:your.operators.apn" if there is no username or password.

5b) Firmware 201603 or later:Using your phone, send an SMS with the following information to your SIM card's phone number (remove quotes):

"APN:your.operators.apn,USER:username,PASS:password,OPER:*" - or -

"APN:your.operators.apn,OPER:*" if there is no username or password.

6) When bttn receives the message, it first shows a yellow LED which then turns green (OK, settings stored) or red (error, settings not accepted).

7a) Firmware 201503, 201506 or 201610: After successfully receiving settings, bttn restarts itself and attempts to connect to the Internet.

- or -

7b) Firmware 201603 or 201605: After successfully receiving settings, push and hold the bttn for 6 seconds to start network search.

Option 3: Set APN by editing SIM contacts (firmware 201503, 201603 and 201605 only)

1) Remove power and SIM card from your bttn.

2) Insert the SIM card to a device that can edit SIM contacts. E.g. an older mobile phone.

3) Go to SIM address book and add/edit the following contacts:

Contact 1: APN:your.operators.apn

Contact 2: USER:username or USER: (leave empty)

Contact 3: PASS:password or PASS: (leave empty)

4a) Firmware 201503 or 201506: Insert the SIM card to your bttn and apply power.

- or -

4b) Firmware 201603: Insert the SIM card to your bttn, start the bttn in AP / signal strength mode, and then push and hold the bttn for 6 seconds to start network search.
